The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1861, is an acute, voluntary teaching hospital, affiliated to University College Dublin. It is internationally recognised as a major teaching hospital. Located in the city centre, the hospital provides a wide range of secondary and tertiary referral services to patients inside and outside its catchment area. It has in excess of 550 beds, employs approximately 2,500 staff and its net expenditure is in the region of €160 million.
